As quoted in “100 years of lights magazine 2012″
“Richard Williams, Illuminations manager, a man who started in street lighting, put himself through night school, and singlemindedly amassed the qualifications, and hands on experience, to help mastermind the greatest free show on earth”.
I’ve worked for Blackpool Council’s Illuminations from being 19 years old. As the Illuminations manager I look after manufacture of all the new illuminations ,installation of the annual show and the maintenance of all the existing features.
During my early years at the Illuminations department I studied at the Blackpool and Fylde Collage in the department of engineering obtaining an ONC and later an HNC in Electrical / Electronic Engineer. Attending extra lessons enabled me to study in the school of construction where I also qualified as an electrician. After completing my studies I applied for registration with the Engineering Council and was granted Incorporated Engineer status.
I am a full member of the IET and an associate member of the ILP
